The APK installer is a tool that allows you to install Android apps using formats that are not supported by the default package installation. To support the new APK distribution system Google uses, the so-called APK Split, it uses standard XAPK packaging.
This app can be used in both directions. You can make backups of installed apps, and then install private copies on your smartphone. These features are included in Apk Installer:
# Creates backup copies and automatically searches for any apps on Android.
# Installs any APK/XAPK into your smartphone’s memory. It’s easy to forget about the internal structure of your smartphone. Just search, install, and go!
# Use an integrated file browser to browse your smartphone’s folders
# Send apps to devices nearby connected to the same network
Over time, the way you can install and download apps has changed. A few years ago, you could simply click on an external APK to install an app and let the package installer installed by default on your Android do the rest. This was the case until other standards were introduced, which added complexity.
The.OBB file (a file that contains additional multimedia files inside an app, such as audio or video) was discovered to be the best way to exceed the Google maximum size for uploading APKs. This makes it more difficult to manually install apps, as you have to place these files in different folders on your device. The best solution was to put the APK and OBB data in the same file and then have it installed using an external tool. The XAPK standard was thus born.
Later, Google began using dynamic distribution systems, such as the Android App Bundle. A developer can publish an app to Google Play. It is then ‘disassembled into split-APKs. Many apps were initially composed of a base APK, as well as several other pieces that contained information about the language, supported screen dimensions, and required CPU architecture. The user only downloads what is necessary to make the app work on their device when they download the app. This saves bandwidth and costs for both the user and the distribution platform.
Apk Installer is designed to allow you to install Android apps manually, without needing to research file formats or destination folders. The app bundles all files (APK + split APKs + OBB if applicable) into one XAPK file when making backups. You only need to locate one file to install your private apps.
