Who can still remember the early days of email? When the electronic mailbox took its first steps and become famous on home computers? From these times also originate curious and embarrassing email addresses like “[email protected]”.
Many email providers offer an address book. You can add friends, family members, work colleagues, professors, emails from websites, and many more entries there. We will show you how to keep your contacts if you want to change your email address.
We will explain how to import your contacts to the two most popular email providers. Google makes the beginning.
Gmail
Once you have signed in to Gmail with a new account, click on the gear icon in the top right corner below the profile photo. Then click on “Settings,” and you will be redirected to Gmail.
There are numerous options, many menus and subcategories. The menu you need is Accounts and Import. You will find a second box that says “Import Mail and Contacts”. Click on this link.
Once you click on the box, a pop-up window will appear where you can enter the email address from which you want to import everything. Next, select the first option: Import contacts (if you want, you can also import old emails or emails from the last 30 days). Click Import, and your entries will be imported into your new email. Simple, isn’t it?

Hotmail/Outlook
Importing to Hotmail is more work but not complicated. Just like in Gmail, the gear icon is the key to Target. Click on this icon to open a pop-up menu. Once there, click on Options to get to the Central Menu.
The main menu could be clearer as in Gmail. You must click on Contacts → Import contacts at the end of the long list. You will now see several options: Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo! Mail, and Windows Live Mail.
The import process differs between the providers, but it’s simple. You will be guided through a menu and have to confirm your entries. Follow the steps and you will have your contacts imported in no time.
Now you can say goodbye to your old account; the new one now has all entries.
