WhatsApp – Expiring messages, a new feature for senders

In Messenger WhatsApp, new features are made available every now and then. In December 2020, the expiring messages were introduced, now getting a new function for senders.

WhatsApp – Expiring messages – New feature for senders – Keep in chat
To enable Expiring Messages in WhatsApp, go to WhatsApp Settings -> Privacy and Self-Deleting Messages. After a period of time, you choose (24 hours, 7 days, 90 days or Off), new messages in a chat will be deleted.

If you have enabled expiring messages but still want to keep one or two chat/voice messages, WhatsApp now introduces the new “Keep in chat” feature.

The Keep in Chat feature allows you to save messages and access them at a later time. Furthermore, as the sender, you can decide if you want to enable this feature for others. So as a sender, you can decide who can keep messages in the chat for later or not.

As the sender, you will receive a notification when someone saves a message. You can then decide if the person can keep the message. If you decide against the other person saving the message, this decision is final, and the message will be deleted as soon as the timer expires.

Saved messages in WhatsApp are bookmarked. You can find these messages sorted by chat in the “Kept messages” folder.
