A “story” function is now a standard feature of most social media apps. Since mid-August, Telegram users have also been able to publish time-limited posts. How do stories work on Telegram?
The “Story” function in Telegram is not much different from the feature in other messengers. You post a video or photo that is visible to other contacts in your profile for a limited time. The story post is then automatically deleted.
How to create a story
The feature is gradually being rolled out to all users in time for Messenger’s 10th anniversary. How to post your own story:
- Go to the chat overview in Telegram.
- If you have activated the function, you will see a plus symbol in the top right-hand corner of the iPhone app.
- Tap the plus sign to create the story post.
- Android users will find the “My Stories” option in the menu behind the three bars.
- Once selected, the camera view opens. This allows you to create a photo or video for the story post.
- Alternatively, tap on the small preview image at the bottom left. This will take you to your gallery, where you can upload a photo that has already been saved.
- As with other apps, you can add effects, stickers, and more to your post.
- Before publishing, specify how long the story post will be visible to others. You can choose between 6, 12, 24, or 48 hours.
- You can also decide who sees the story. This can be anyone who visits your account, contacts, only selected contacts, or users you have marked as close friends.
- Unlike WhatsApp, for example, Telegram also offers the option of preventing screenshots for the post.
How the stories work in Telegram
Once the post has been published, you can use the three dots in the post view to call up some options afterward. This allows you to save the post in the gallery if you want to view the photo even after it has been automatically deleted. You can also adjust the user group here afterward or remove the story post directly. There is also a story archive in the account overview, which you can use to view past posts of this type again.
