GPT-3.5 and GPT-4 are used for image analysis. The feature was announced at the end of September in the OpenAI blog (to the announcement at OpenAI).
How to insert images in ChatGPT?
OpenAI has been rolling out the corresponding update since the end of September 2023. However, it is released only for paying “ChatGPT Plus” subscribers.
Then, Artificial Intelligence can recognize text and content on photos that are uploaded. This can be used, for example:
- have it quickly solve math problems
- convert diagrams into text
- or interpret tables
- the AI is also supposed to help with craft problems
For example, one can point out certain image contents by marking them with the usual image editing tools and framing them. Several images can also be checked at once.

Image recognition is available both on the desktop in the browser and in the ChatGPT apps for Android and iOS.
Thus, you can directly take new photos or upload images from the phone’s memory to be examined. All you have to do is press the “Plus” icon in the input field.
The costs for the required ChatGPT Plus subscription are $20 per month. Those not wanting to book paid access should look at Google Lens. This free service from Google is available for Android and iOS. It can also be used to examine photos on the smartphone and, for example, translate texts or analyze objects on them.
